Leather + Black Gold: The Story Behind Our Second Most Personal Scent
Share

Leather + Black Gold is our second personal fragrance we've created at 76008 Candle Co. — and if you've ever loved someone who smelled like hard work, red dirt, and the open Texas sky, we think you'll feel it too.
The Inspiration: Oil Men, Open Plains, and Family Legacy
My Pawpaw and my dad's side of the family were oil men through and through. My dad grew up working the oil fields of West Texas — the kind of work that gets into your skin, your clothes, and your memory. After college, he went on to become an oil trader for some of the largest oil companies in the world. But no matter how far he went, West Texas never left him.
I grew up hearing those stories. The pump jacks that never stopped turning. The cracked red earth baking under a relentless sun. The smell of worn leather work gloves, sunbaked machinery, and dusty plains stretching to the horizon. It was a world built on grit, pride, and the kind of quiet strength that doesn't need to announce itself.
Leather + Black Gold is my way of bottling that legacy.
The Scent: What You'll Actually Smell
We spent a long time getting this one right. The goal wasn't just to make something that smelled good — it was to make something that felt true.
The result is a fragrance built on three pillars:
- Leather — Rich, worn, and unmistakably rugged. Not a synthetic leather note, but the real thing: the kind that comes from a well-used work glove or a saddle that's seen a thousand miles.
- Oakmoss — Deep, earthy, and grounding. Oakmoss anchors the fragrance in the land itself — the West Texas earth that smells like rain hasn't touched it in weeks, but somehow still feels alive.
- Fireside — Warm, smoky, and sun-baked. This is the heat of oilfield machinery at the end of a long day, the last light of a Texas sunset, the kind of warmth that settles into your bones.
Together, these three notes create something that's masculine without being aggressive, complex without being fussy, and deeply, unmistakably West Texas.

The Craft: Hand-Poured in Aledo, Texas
Every candle we make at 76008 Candle Co. is hand-poured in small batches in Aledo, Texas. We use 100% soy wax and a natural wood wick that crackles like a real fire — because we believe the experience of a candle should be as good as the scent.
We're a woman-owned, family-run business, and we pour every candle with the same care and intention that goes into everything we do. Leather + Black Gold is no exception. In fact, it might be the one we're most proud of.
Who This Candle Is For
Leather + Black Gold was made for the men who work hard and the people who love them. It's for the dad who spent his weekends under a truck hood. The grandfather whose hands always smelled like leather and motor oil. The husband who still wears the same worn boots he bought fifteen years ago.
It's also for anyone who's ever stood in a wide-open Texas field at golden hour and felt something they couldn't quite name — that mix of pride, peace, and belonging that only the land can give you.
Available in 8 oz and 16 oz
Leather + Black Gold is available in our signature amber glass jar with a crackling wood wick, in both 8 oz (30+ hour burn time) and 16 oz (50+ hour burn time) sizes. It comes gift-ready in our signature black gift box — because some stories deserve to be shared.
This one's personal. We hope it becomes personal to you too.
